What to Expect at Your First Group Fitness Class | DR/VE Training Club

Curious What to Expect at Your First Group Fitness Class? We've got your back.
Trying your first group fitness class can feel exciting—and a little intimidating.
What should you wear?
What if you've never worked out before?
Will everyone else know what they're doing?
Will you be able to keep up?
If you've ever asked yourself these questions, you're not alone. Nearly every member who walks through our doors has felt the same way.
The good news? You don't have to have everything figured out before you start.
You Don't Need to Be "In Shape" First
One of the biggest misconceptions about group fitness is that everyone in class is already fit.
The reality is much different.
Every experienced member was once a beginner.
Everyone has had a first class.
Everyone has had a first workout.
At DR/VE Training Club, our goal isn't to impress anyone—it's to help you build confidence one class at a time.
Arrive a Little Early
For your first visit, we recommend arriving about 10–15 minutes before class begins.
This gives you time to:
Meet your coach
Tour the studio
Learn where everything is
Get set up for class
Ask any questions before the workout starts
If you're taking Cycle, we'll also help you adjust your bike and explain how everything works before class begins.
Wear Something Comfortable
You don't need special workout clothes.
Choose athletic clothing that allows you to move comfortably.
For Cycle classes, cycling shoes are provided if you don't have your own.
For Train, Sculpt, and Hybrid classes, simply wear supportive athletic shoes.
Bring a water bottle if you'd like—we'll take care of the rest.
Expect Coaching, Not Confusion
One of the biggest benefits of group fitness is that you're never left wondering what to do next.
Every workout is fully coached from beginning to end.
Your coach will:
Demonstrate movements
Explain proper form
Offer modifications
Encourage you throughout class
Help you feel successful regardless of your experience level
You don't need to memorize exercises or build your own workout plan.
Just show up.
Modifications Are Normal
You don't have to do every movement exactly the same way as someone beside you.
In fact, you shouldn't.
Everyone has different fitness levels, injuries, and goals.
Our coaches regularly provide options to increase or decrease intensity so you can train safely while still challenging yourself.
It's Okay to Take Breaks
Fitness isn't about never stopping.
It's about continuing to improve.
Need a sip of water?
Take one.
Need a moment to catch your breath?
Take it.
Listening to your body is part of training intelligently.
You're Here for More Than a Workout
People often join because they're looking for exercise.
They stay because of the community.
You'll quickly notice members encouraging one another, coaches learning your name, and an environment that's welcoming rather than intimidating.
That sense of community is one of the reasons so many people stay consistent with their fitness routine.
Which Class Should You Start With?
There's no single "right" answer.
It depends on your goals and what sounds fun to you.
If you love music and cardio, try Cycle.
If your goal is building strength, TRAIN is a great place to start.
If you're looking for lower-impact movement with muscular endurance and core work, Sculpt may be the perfect fit.
If you want a little bit of everything, Hybrid combines cycling and strength training into one workout.
The best class is often the one you're most excited to come back to.
Your First Class Is Just the Beginning
No one expects perfection.
You might miss a cue.
You might need lighter weights.
You might feel challenged.
That's all part of the process.
The important thing isn't having the perfect first workout.
It's coming back for the second.
And then the third.
That's where real progress happens.
If you've been waiting for the "right time" to start your fitness journey, this is your reminder that you don't have to wait.
We'll meet you where you are—and help you get where you want to go.
